Jamie & Suzanne

Hi, we are Jamie and Suzanne, thank you for reading more about us. We hope that our profile will give you a glimpse of our lives and our desire to adopt.
In The Beginning
We met in New York City, where we both had found jobs after university. We were one of the earlier couples to meet through an internet dating website. Jamie had the best name to get Suzanne’s attention. Since he had taken a couple years of ballroom dancing lessons, he used ‘ballroomdancer.’ Since Suzanne had wanted to learn to dance for a long time, she was very interested. After the first few dates, we knew we were going to be together for good. After we had been together for almost two years, we put our ballroom dancing lessons to good use: we got married at Suzanne’s parents’ house in Canada, with lots of dancing, of course.
Our wedding was a great big party for our family and friends, and we have been told by many of our guests that it was the best wedding they’d ever been at. We had a short and sweet ceremony, followed by lots of eating, talking, and dancing. We did a lot of planning and work to put it all together, but it was well worth it for the great memories! Our families worked hard together to help make it all happen. Suzanne’s mom and aunt grew our floral arrangements all summer, and Jamie’s cousins played the music on piano & French horn, and Jamie’s cousin decorated the cake that Suzanne’s mom had baked.
About Us
After we married, we moved down to North Carolina, where Jamie had grown up. We planned to start a family and wanted to be close to other family members as well. We moved to within an hour of Jamie’s parents, and sister and brother-in-law. Jamie grew up here, but he was born on the west coast where his birth mother died from ovarian cancer when he was one and half years old. He was adopted by his aunt and raised with his 3 cousins who he thinks of as his 2 sisters and brother.
Since we moved down here, we have made many friends and have enjoyed finding several hobbies which we can do together. We have enjoyed going bicycling with groups of friends, sometimes as far as 40 miles in a ride. For several years, we have gone to the beach in September to ride in a charity ride which raises money to try to cure MS. In 2008, after we found a dance studio a few miles from our house, we restarted taking ballroom dance lessons, like the ones we had taken when we lived in New York. Once again, we got to dance the night away to Foxtrot, Salsa, Waltz, and Cha-cha, to name a few. We also have gone to watch baseball every few weeks with our friends, during baseball season, that is. Lately, we’ve been having a lot of fun helping our friends care for their six month old daughter, babysitting as well, on occasion.
Most years, in September or October, we love to go to the beach with our friends for a week vacation. This year, we are going with the same friends to do day hikes in Colorado for a week. Since we have been living so far from Suzanne’s family, most of our other vacations have been spent going to visit them in Canada. A few years ago, we went to a small resort in northern Ontario with all of Suzanne’s family. We were there with Suzanne’s parents, her siblings and their spouses and all their young children. It was a wonderful week of family bonding. Just visiting Suzanne’s parents is like visiting a resort, anyway. They live on the edge of a huge river and have a dock with a 24’ sailboat, several canoes, great places for swimming, a lot of trails for hiking, and local courts to play tennis at.
When we aren’t off having fun vacations, we get to be at home, going to work each day. Together with her co-managers and their staff, Suzanne keeps a very large and busy public library running smoothly. Jamie works for a large healthcare computer software company. Jamie gets to talk on the phone to a lot of the people running the doctors’ offices and make sure everything still works after he is done moving their data from one computer to another.
After work, we come home each night to our two black Labrador Retrievers, Keeper (boy) and Raven (girl), and our Parakeet, Joey. Joey is usually singing in the background while we browse the internet on our computers. The dogs are laying and sleeping at our feet in whatever room we go to, unless of course it’s feeding time, or walking time. They have a nice fenced in backyard to play in, and a dog door which lets them in and out all day while we are at work.
Our Home
We live in a spacious home in a well established family friendly neighborhood. Several of our neighbors have children of all different ages. One girl just graduated from high school, and one boy is just learning to walk. Our back yard is just waiting for children to play in.
About Adoption
Thank you for taking the time to read all the way to the end! For many years, we have dreamt about having children of our own, and are really excited that, through adoption, we will be able to fulfill that dream. We can’t wait to read our child a bedtime story, or teach them how to ride a bike, or take them on vacations to Canada, the outer banks or other amazing places around the world. And, yes, we are even looking forward to the late night feedings, diapering and teething, as well. We are excited about everything a baby will bring into our lives.
As you can see, we are a fun couple, committed to each other and to becoming the best parents we can be. Any child placed with us will be loved, supported, and encouraged every day of their life.
