Jim & Shannon
Hi we are Jim and Shannon and hope to meet you soon. Thank you for considering us as adoptive parents. Please know that
we will honor your dreams of a good, loving, adventurous life for your child. We will do everything in our power to make your child’s dreams come true. We would love nothing more than to share our love, and lives with a few children. We are very committed as parents and our love is unconditional and will last a lifetime.
In the Beginning
Jim and I met though a mutual friend who casually introduced us while out one evening. Jim had just bought a home and been dating, yet nothing serious. He told me he remembers saying to his best friend that he was going to take a break from the dating scene for a while because it just seemed impossible to find a real connection. That’s when we met! Our first encounter helped define Jim and I as a couple and how our relationship has developed throughout our married life. Jim and I provide each other unconditional love and support.
Fun Times
We love spending time outdoors whether it is hiking, biking, horseback riding, boating, fishing or just walking the dog. We love taking regular vacations. Not long ago we rented a beautiful cabin and took our oldest nephew snow skiing for the weekend. A
few years back we took a family trip with MeMa and Popop and the entire family to Washington, DC for a long weekend. Once a year we like to go places we have never been whether it is abroad in Europe or somewhere in the U.S.
Shannon about Jim
Jim is such a family man and would be a devoted father and good role model. He is so committed to the family and enjoys making sure everyone feels loved and protected. Jim has a great job as a real estate broker with two offices-one five minutes from home and the other is in our home. Jim and I are so grateful to have flexible schedules since we will be having a little one soon. We both agree the first years of bonding with the baby is important and we both agree that we will be completely devoted to our child’s development. Jim and I are both college graduates and will extend every opportunity to our child for a good education. Jim is excited to share his hobbies of golfing, photography, playing the guitar, and sports with our new addition!!
Jim about Shannon
Shannon is so excited about being a parent and looking forward to bedtime stories, making cakes, cookies and taking an active role in the baby’s life. She has so much love and encouragement to offer, and will be a positive role model for a child. Her personality is uplifting, bright and cheerful. She loves animals and the outdoors. Shannon is a manager for a global technology company. Many days she works from home. For fun Shannon enjoys cycling, boot camp classes at the gym, yoga and horseback riding.
Family
Adoption is so natural in our family since my family has already grown through adoption.
All three of Shannon’s nieces are adopted as well as her brother. Our nieces Madison, Monroe and Mckinley are all under a year old. It would be so much fun to teach our baby to swim with our nieces and go out on Uncle Curtis’ boat in Floridia.
Jim has two brothers and one sister, and all of them have kids. He also has a large extended family with children. Holidays are a special time and very large, generally they are no less than 20 people at his parent’s house for dinner. We normally gather at MeMa’s house (Jims mom) with plenty of activities for our 5 nephews and (1) niece (future cousins to our baby). These kids really are a reflection of their wonderful parents. We spend the other half of our holidays with my family on the beach, enjoying the water and at night watching the sunset.
We have several family traditions that we celebrate by cooking a special meal for that occasion. For St. Patrick’s Day we always cook corned beef and cabbage, and on New Years we cook black eyed peas with rice and collards.
Both sides of our families are thrilled about us adopting and want more children. All members of our family are loved, respected, and well taken care of. It doesn’t matter how you join the family-whether by marriage, adoption, etc, you’re part of the family for life.
Faith
Our family’s are diverse in religions and are all very open and respectful of one another’s beliefs. We are members, and involved in our neighborhood Methodist Church. Our Pastor is excited that we have chosen the gift of adoption to grow our family. Every Sunday they have the children sit at the alter steps with the Sunday school teacher for a reading. It is touching and often funny what the children say and do!
Home
Our home is in a safe neighborhood within walking distance of pizza and ice cream parlors and shopping. We have several parks and trails. Our neighborhood magnet schools offer a great education. There is no shortage of children in our neighborhood. Our home has four bedrooms and three baths. We share our home with a Chocolate Lab that LOVES kids and a cat named “Miss Pearl”. They both enjoy being around us and part of the family.
Our neighbors every year have a haunted house for the kids on Halloween. When it snows our neighborhood is a winter wonderland, Jim and I have already picked out the perfect spot for sledding and it is right up street. We love watching the children make snowmen in the square which is walking distance from home. We cant wait untill our child is old enough to enjoy these fun times.
Jim has built bird feeders around the house for me so I can look out any window and see these beautiful creatures. He also has a wonderful herb and vegetable garden. When we cook we enjoy cutting the fresh vegetables and herbs to include in our family meals. I love the summertime when Jim plants the lettuce, tomatoes and peppers. We keep our yard colorful by planting flower-bulbs. Our seasonal favorites are tulips. They turned out great this year!
About Adoption
We have always known that someday we would have children. Adoption to us is a wonderful opportunity for us to provide a child with a loving, balanced and stable life. We recently reflected on our childhood and feel fortunate that we both came from loving and supportive families and both of our parents are still happily married. It is these positive traits that we hope to pass on to our children, “Family comes first”. We look forward to a future with a couple of children and making wonderful memories as a family.
We hope you can see our personalities and love of life. We cannot wait to meet you and share our “stories of life” and hear your dreams for the child. We pray this letter finds you well and gives you hope that you will find the perfect family.
