John & Leslie

Hi, we’re Leslie & John. Thank you for taking time to learn more about our desire to have a family through adoption. We hope that our profile gives you a glimpse into our lives and what we have to offer your child. We promise to provide a child with a world full of warmth, caring and love.

In the Beginning

Leslie and John met through a blind “telephone date” that was arranged by Leslie’s friend Cathy, when Leslie was completing her education at a northern University. Leslie’s friend had met John through her sister’s husband and thought that John might be the perfect person for Leslie. (How right she was!) Cathy asked John and Leslie if they would like to “meet” over the telephone and they both said yes.

With our first telephone call, we learned that we had a great deal in common. We agreed on many important things, like values, family, and religion, and that we definitely wanted to meet in person! Living a ninety minute train ride away from one another, our first meeting was on a train platform near Leslie’s home. After that, we were inseparable, and, ten months later, we were married in Setauket, New York.

About Us

John is from North Carolina and Leslie grew up in the Florida, so we agreed that we wanted to head back south to be closer to our families when we began to start one of our own. Upon completion of her Geriatric Fellowship, Leslie began looking for a job in North Carolina. John was the Executor of his late aunt’s will and he arranged with his family to inherit the house that had belonged to his late grandmother in North Carolina. One month after we were married, John and Leslie moved John’s hometown.

John is in graduate school, part-time at a local university working toward a Master’s degree. He also works part-time as an information developer. Leslie works as a physician for a private practice close to our home.

We enjoy cooking gourmet meals, visiting art museums, kayaking, and visiting the local, small farms from which we buy much of our food. In 2008, we went on a winter skiing vacation with family to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It was John’s first time skiing, and perhaps Leslie’s fourth time. We discovered that we both really enjoy skiing and are hoping to make it an annual event.

Our Home

We live in a beautiful home that has been in John’s family for years. We have lots of space for children to laugh and play and cannot wait to make new memories. We have 3 house cats who each have their own little personalities who share our home. Their main job is to eat and sleep when they are not receiving loving attention from us.

Our Family

John has 2 brothers, one who lives in Arizona but his other brother and mother are close by. Leslie’s family lives in Florida and includes her parents, brother, Jim and his wife with their 3 children. Although they don’t all live close by, holidays are a big event with all family members and our nieces and nephew are so excited about having a little cousin!

About Adoption

We feel truly blessed by God to have found each other; yet it has been a tremendous disappointment for us to be unable to conceive a child on our own. We discussed other methods for starting a family but decided that by not being able to have biological children, God was sending the message that He wanted us to extend the gift of our love to a child through adoption. We firmly believe that God wants for us to multiply the love we have for each other by extending that love to a family, and for that reason, we have chosen adoption as our means for creating that family.
