Mike & Jonna

Hi, we are Jonna and Mike. We thank you for considering us to be the parents of your child. We have two very loving children, Caleb and Aubrey. We are all excited to bring another child to our family through adoption.

IN THE BEGINNING

Both of us grew up in the northern Ohio area. We lived in nearby cities but never knew each other. After both graduating from college, we met while working at a company in our local area. We really enjoyed being together and getting to know each other. We also loved spending time with our families and friends. We dated for over two years before getting married. We lived and worked in Ohio for 7 years before Mike’s company relocated him to North Carolina. We really enjoy living in North Carolina and plan to raise our kids here. We have worked to build a very strong marriage based on a deep faith in God, love, trust and respect for each other and our children. We consider each other our best friend.

ABOUT US

Jonna is a wonderful loving, kind, sensitive stay-at-home mother. She cares deeply for her family and is very involved in the activities of her children. Jonna is room mother for Aubrey’s class at school. She also teaches Sunday school and is a Brownie leader for Aubrey’s troop. She spends time taking Aubrey and Caleb to various activities as well as being with them at home after school. In addition to spending time with her family, Jonna enjoys attending a church bible study group and playing Bunco with friends in the neighborhood once a month. She also loves to bake and read. Her physical activities include going on daily walks and playing tennis. Jonna loves children and will welcome the opportunity to teach and care for a new son or daughter.

Mike is a very loving, kind, patient and hard working husband. He is a very committed father and enjoys his family a great deal. Mike is successful in his position at work. He enjoys many activities which include being involved in ministries within his church, helping friends, working outside in the yard, biking and taking walks. He also is very funny and loves playing with Aubrey and Caleb. Mike grew up in a very large family and is looking forward to expanding ours through adoption.

Caleb is very curious and loves to read. He has a good sense of humor and enjoys school. He loves being with neighborhood friends of all ages. Caleb loves sports but his favorite is soccer. He enjoys playing on a challenge team on Sundays in the fall and spring. He is interested in learning to cook and loves the show “Good Eats” on the Food Channel. Caleb has also expressed an interest in learning to play a musical instrument such as the trombone. Caleb looks forward to holding a new sibling, teaching them the alphabet and numbers and having overall fun with them.

Aubrey is always eager to learn new things and enjoys math and writing in school. She loves crafts and can often be found drawing and coloring. She also loves playing with stuffed animals. Her bed is often covered with stuffed animals as she can’t decide on which one to sleep with! Aubrey plays on a soccer team each Saturday during the fall and spring. She also sings in the children’s choir at church and attends Brownie troop meetings every other Wednesday. Aubrey is excited about having a new sibling and looks forward to rocking them to sleep.

OUR EXTENDED FAMILIES

Jonna has two sisters and two brothers. Mike has seven sisters and one brother. We both grew up in very loving and supportive families. Our parents on both sides have been a true role model of Christian parenting. We both have many loving memories of our childhood from spending time with our family, going on family vacations to just being there for our siblings. Even though our families are located throughout the country, we are very close. We are aunt and uncle to 31 nieces and nephews and enjoy spending time with them. When we plan family vacations, we usually stop and see family members in the area we are visiting.

OUR FAITH

Our Christian faith is very important in our lives. We attend church each weekend and try to live our lives according to Christian values. Jonna and Mike feel it is vital that they live a Christ-centered life. We want to teach our children Christian values of loving God as well as loving and respecting your neighbor. We go as a family to church functions which help serve the community such as making lunches on Saturday mornings for the homeless. We want our children to learn that it is important to help others and not to take things for granted. We plan to encourage them to make these values a strong part of their lives.

FUN TIMES

We really enjoy going places together as a family. On weekends, we enjoy going to the park to feed the ducks, taking bike rides, taking nature walks, going to the zoo or a museum. In the summer time, we take weekend trips to the ocean and in the fall and spring we like to visit the mountains. We also like to take family vacations to places such as Walt Disney World, the museums in Washington D.C. or another state. Jonna and Caleb tend to be homebodies and like just hanging out to maybe play water balloons in the backyard! On the other hand, Mike and Aubrey love going out to different places of interest. We try and balance family time to suit both pursuits.

A strong family is very important to both of us. We know that it is very important to make time for each other and our children. This time together may be kicking a ball outside, going on a walk, swimming at the local pool, helping the kids with homework, reading books, eating a meal or praying together as a family.

OUR HOME

Our home is a very warm and inviting place. It is a place that others want to gather. Typically, there will be two to four other children playing at our house on a given afternoon. We want our children to always feel that they can have friends over for playdates. Our house is very spacious and open. We have a screened in porch and deck at the back of the house where we enjoy family meals in the summer. Our home is located in a subdivision with many children and has a community pool and playground. It is also within walking distance to four schools, a local park and community center and public tennis courts. Our neighborhood also has a lake with a walking trail that we use to take family walks.

ABOUT ADOPTION

We are excited about welcoming a new child to our family through adoption. We have wanted to have more children biologically, but have not been successful. We have a lot of love that we would like to share with another child. We realize this is not an easy decision for you to choose a family to raise and care for your child. We feel that you are not “giving your child up”, but “sending them forth” for a family to love. We will consider your child a true blessing to our family. Jonna will happily decrease some of her activities in order to devote more time to having an infant in our home. Finally, we want you to know that we will let your child know at an appropriate time that he or she was adopted. We will always make sure that they understand that being adopted was a gift and a blessing.
